A New Adventure
Today is finally here!
I've been waiting for this day with much prayer and excitement, and I can hardly believe in a few short hours I'll be on a plane, headed for Uganda. I'm going with the college ministry at Highland Baptist Church to work with Restoration Gateway. While we're there, we'll meet roughly 400 children and share Christ's love with them through basketball camps, dental work, construction and Vacation Bible School.
A little piece of my heart was set aside for Africa a long time ago, when I saw the Invisible Children documentary at my high school youth group. Once a rowdy bunch of students, we were humbled to silence as we witnessed a glimpse of the injustice. In Uganda, children were taken from their homes and forced to be warriors in the Lord’s Resistance Army in effort to overthrow the Ugandan government. Children would walk all night just to avoid the troops. Seeing this tragedy was heartbreaking, and I’ve been passionate about Uganda ever since. I dreamed about someday going to Africa, and this week that becomes a reality.
I’m especially looking forward to this trip because the child I sponsor through World Vision, Irene, lives in Uganda. I’m going to love learning all about her life and culture.
